Broadcasting Millennium deals

Substantial progress across broadcasting has been made in negotiating Millennium compensation.

It has become apparent that the deal made with the BBC has become the benchmark for agreements across broadcasting.

Carlton

Carlton's offer, still under consideration, is the same as the BBC agreement, except that the period to be paid the additional £500 is 1900 to 0900 News Year's Eve, and the standby payment is £250.

NTL

NTL, which includes the former IBA Transmitter network, will receive 5T for working between 2200 and 0800 and from 0800 for a shift on 1 January 2000. Double time will apply to 2 and 3 January.

Merlin

Merlin, the former BBC World Service Transmission network, has come to the same agreement as the BBC.

CTI

Staff at CTI (Castle) will receive 8T for hours worked 2200 on December 31 1999 to 0600 on January 1 2000, and 4T for work 1700 to 2200 on New Year's Eve, and from 0600 until midnight on New Year's Day. CTI includes the former BBC domestic transmission network.

ITN

Members at ITN are currently balloting on management's offer of a £500 payment working 2130 to 0700 News Year's Eve, with staff being credited two days in lieu for working on either New Year's Eve or Day.

Granada Media Group

The offer is similar to the BBC agreement, and has been agreed at Yorkshire/Tyne Tees, is under consideration at Granada, and has been rejected at LWT (London Weekend Television).

Scottish Media Group

Members at SMG have rejected the management offer of £300 for work during the New Year's Eve.

United News and Media

Agreement has yet to be reached on the management offer of £250 to rostered staff and £500 for non-rostered staff.

ITFC

ITFC subtitlers staff will be paid £200 for working on News Year's Eve and Day subject to a full day/shift. Where staff work less than this £100 will be paid, and an additional £300 will be paid where work occurs between 2130 and 0700 New Year's Eve.
