BECTU and ITV have signed a Recognition Agreement covering staff at the BACC, the Broadcast Advertising Clearance Centre.

The union have been organising at the BACC for the past two years and now have around half the workforce of over 40 staff in membership.

The BACC work on behalf of all of the major commercial broadcasters including ITV, Channel 4, Channel 5, GMTV, Sky and IDS (Flextech), Turner and Viacom to ensure that their advertising complies with regulatory codes.

It is currently owned and controlled by ITV but the future structure has been under review for some time with speculation that it will become a stand alone company owned by the major clients.

BECTU National Official commented: "I would like to go on record to thank our reps and all the members at the BACC who have worked hard to achieve union recognition.

"This was a workplace where two years ago there was probably not a single union member but now we have won recognition rights.

"Clearly the future is somewhat uncertain for the BACC but we are now in a stronger position to support out members there."
