Course description

This course introduces members to the details of workplace pension schemes and how they work. It is designed to help BECTU representatives begin to build their understanding of pensions so they can assist members with pension queries and participate actively in any discussions instigated by employers on proposals related to pensions. It will cover:
• defined benefit (final salary and CARE) pensions
• how they operate and how they are run
• funding the schemes
• risks
• changes
• defined contribution pensions
• how they operate and how they are run
• taking pension
• risks
• comparisons between the systems
• taxation, problems and further info


This course is for you if you are keen to develop your knowledge on how pensions work with a view to assisting fellow BECTU members.

After successfully completing this course you may want to progress to “Becoming a pension champion”.

Duration

This is a one-day non-residential course which usually runs from 10.30am to 3.00pm.
Lunch will be provided.
