Dubbed Changing Technologies for New Entrants, the new scheme is funded by the film and television industry through Skillset’s TV Freelance Fund and Film Skills Fund.

Up to 30 paid apprenticeship-style places will be available across the range of skills; the programme will prepare people for freelance careers in junior technical, production and craft areas of film and television.

Full details of the new scheme are on FT2’s site. The closing date for receipt of applications is 31 July 2008.

Also this week, FT2’s current crop of graduates will be celebrating their success. Twenty-five trainees and apprentices have completed a pilot programme, Screen Firsts, which provided training and work placements in technical, production and design roles.

BECTU’s General Secretary, Gerry Morrissey has been invited to present the certificates at a function on 3 July.

Commenting on FT2 Gerry Morrissey said: “FT2 represents the best of our industries, encouraging young talent from every background, working with professionals on the ground and making a real difference.

“The awards ceremony is an opportunity to celebrate the dedicated study, hard work and deserved success of the FT2 graduates of 2008. We warmly welcome them as future friends and colleagues in the film and TV industries.”
