Scottish freelance rate information
New rates for freelances and casuals working for BBC Scotland have been published.
The new rates [74k pdf] are the result of successful discussions with the BBC which concluded last month and which have been endorsed by members.
“To secure any backpayment, all grades must submit the appropriate claim form”
The new agreement also entitles eligible workers to backpay.
Script supervisors, production designers, costume designers and schedule D camera operators may now be due 4% backpayments from 1 October 2007 with a further 2% from 1 October 2008. Backpayments will apply to the minimum rates only.
Schedule E camera operators and all casual grades on the rate card may be due a 4% back payment from 1 April 2008 but again backpay will only apply to the minimum rates.
Paul McManus, BECTU’s Scottish Officer said, “I believe this will apply to the vast majority of casuals as they are generally paid on the minimums.”
To secure any backpayment, all grades must submit the appropriate claim form. The BBC has drawn up a claim form for casuals [18k pdf] and a claim form for freelances [17k pdf]. All claims must be submitted by 13 March 2009.
