Health and safety versus production?
Is health and safety “the bull in the china shop” the element of programme-making which constrains creativity?
This question, and more, will be addressed at a seminar organised by BECTU as part of this year’s Broadcast Video Expo which takes place at Earls Court 2 from 17-19 February.
If you have not registered to attend yet, why not do it now?
Health and safety is one of the biggest responsibilities for any programme or film production team.
The standalone nature of a production, which brings together staff and freelance workers for a defined period, often in unfamiliar surroundings, always presents a challenge on the health and safety front.
The nature of a production, with its possible mix of location and studio environments and special effects, only adds to the responsibilities of production management and the entire crew.
But just where do the ultimate responsibilities lie, and especially where employment relationships may not be easily defined?

What is the best way to deliver effective health and safety management in programme/film making?
The promotion of a strong health and safety culture is a key part of BECTU’s work, which is why the union was pleased to accept an invitation from Broadcast Video Expo 2009 to organise a seminar on the topic.
