Nomination extension

The deadline has been extended for nominations to BECTU's Appeals Committee and SOC.

Insufficient nominations have been received for members of the 2003-2004 Appeals Committee and SOC (Standing Orders Committee) and accordingly the current SOC has extended the closing date for receipt of further nominations up to the opening of BECTU's Annual Conference.

Forms for making nominations were sent to BECTU Branch Secretaries with Conference Document 1, and those for members of the Appeals Committee and Standing Orders Committee remain valid. Further copies can be obtained from David Cormack at BECTU head office.

If required a ballot of delegates will be held at BECTU's Annual Conference. The ballot box will be opened and sealed at times to be announced by the SOC during Conference. Only delegates actually present and voting at the Annual Conference proceedings can take part in the ballot - balloting in these elections is not by card vote.

No ballot is required to elect the Trustees, as there were only two nominations for two positions. Dennis Claridge and Deryck Lewis are therefore duly re-elected as Trustees for 2003-2004.

The following nominations were received by the closing date set by union's Standing Orders Committee of 13 March 2003:

  • Trustees (two to be elected)
    • Dennis Claridge (Labs Miscellaneous) - nominated by Labs Miscellaneous
    • Deryck Lewis (South Wales Freelance) - nominated by South Wales Freelance, North Wales Freelance
  • Appeals Committee (five to be elected)
    • Mary Corner (Glasgow Bingo) - nominated by Glasgow Bingo
  • Standing Orders Committee (five to be elected)
    • Winnie Lowes (Northern Freelance) - nominated by Tyne Tees TV
