Political ballot has closed
A postal ballot of all BECTU members on continuing the union's Labour link closed at noon today.
The result is due to be announced at 1200 on Sunday November 30, and will be available on this website.
BECTU has been affiliated to the Labour party since its foundation in 1991, however branch representatives at BECTU's annual conference in May this year instructed the union's leadership to conduct research into alternative forms of Parliamentary representation.
After surveying other political parties with a presence in Westminster, the union concluded that its link with Labour was still in the interests of members, and launched the postal ballot with a recommendation that the affiliation should continue.
All ballot arrangements have been handled by the Electoral Reform Society, an independent scrutineer.
