Alan Sapper dies at 75
Alan Sapper, former General Secretary of the ACTT - one of BECTU's founding unions - died on Friday 19th May, aged 75.
Alan was General Secretary of the Association of Cinematograph, Television and Allied Technicians (ACTT) from 1969 until the formation of BECTU in 1991.
He was in office during the period of the union's greatest influence - for instance in the highly-effective 1979 ITV strike - and into the Thatcher years when anti-union laws steadily eroded their ability to defend their members, symbolised by the TV-am lock-out in 1987.
He was a longstanding and vocal member of the TUC General Council from 1970 to 1984.
The funeral will be on Tuesday 30th May, at 2.00 p.m. at Mortlake Crematorium in south-west London.
A full obituary will appear in the BECTU journal Stage Screen & Radio.
