GTV action suspended for ballot

Intensified industrial action at Granada TV has been suspended whilst a ballot is held on a revised pay offer.

The offer from Granada management, which BECTU is recommending members accept in the ballot, includes:

  • A two-year pay offer of 3.6% in 1999, and a further increase of RPI plus 0.5% in January 2000.
  • The formation of a union/management joint working party to examine scheduling and reward for Bank Holiday and weekend working.
The ballot is being run for Manchester and Liverpool Granada TV members to accept or reject the offer, and closes on 30 July.

If the offer is rejected, it is intended to restart industrial action on 2 August - this could result in the loss of the GTV programme Coronation Street within two weeks.
