Funding for riggers training

Riggers keen to improve their skills and to gain formal industry accreditation can get financial help to complete their training.

BECTU members are invited to find out more about the support available for riggers wanting to complete the NVQ level 2 element of the Construction Industry Scaffolders Record Scheme (CISRS) [2.5M pdf].

A special briefing and advice session will take place next Tuesday 11 November 2008 in The Hitchcock Room, Pinewood Studios, Iver Heath, Buckinghamshire from 1600. More information about the event is in the invitation letter [137k pdf].

Expert guidance will be on hand to identify how much financial support could be available, along with the most suitable training providers. Financial support for the training could run to several hundred pounds, depending on eligibility.

The event is organised by industry training body, Skillset, and the government agency, Train to Gain, working together with the Joint Industry Training Scheme (JIGS) and the Joint Industry Scaffolding and Rigging Committee (JISRC). BECTU works in partnership with all of the named bodies.

BECTU Assistant General Secretary, Martin Spence, who is also Chair of JIGS, and National Official, Spencer MacDonald, also Joint Secretary of the JISRC, have welcomed the initiative saying: “We strongly recommend that you take advantage of this event to help you achieve a CISRS card in order to support the increase of standards within the industry.”
