LWT ballot cancelled
Plans to ballot BECTU's LWT membership have been suspended after talks with the company.
BECTU had registered a dispute following evidence that the company had failed to implement in full the settlement agreed last November to halt long running industrial action. The union was preparing to run another industrial action ballot to resolve the deadlock.
However, after talks on 5 June, management have agreed that part of the London Weighting Allowance will be consolidated in pay packets next month for all purposes with backdating to January 1998.
Talks are to continue to determine the impact of this agreement on those staff who receive the 1CIV allowance.
The unions and management were willing to agree to the compromise formula; individual members will receive a letter to their homes concerning further details of the agreement.
